Life at Sea: Winds, Currents, and the Blue Guests Blanketing Shores
Sailing is the art of synchronizing with nature’s elements. However, sometimes the same winds that fill our sails also bring unexpected visitors. Recently, the Australian coastline has witnessed a massive arrival of "Bluebottles" vibrant, blue siphonophores that are nature’s very own sailors.
Unlike most jellyfish, Bluebottles use a gas filled sac as a literal sail, allowing the wind to dictate their journey. Due to recent strong northeasterly winds and warm currents, thousands of these "blue guests" have drifted onto Austuralian beaches in Victoria and New South Wales.
